Welcome to Transitions, a new blog venture by the Center for the Advanced Study of India to provide a space for discussion on Indian political economy. We will provide regular posts in the form of opinion pieces, links, and short analysis on current events in India.
Over the next few months, this will primarily be used as a space for discussion of the upcoming Indian Lok Sabha election, which will be the largest democratic election in history. With funding from the Lok Foundation, CASI and Milan Vaishnav of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace have been working on a multi-year panel survey of 65,000+ households. The first survey was conducted between October and December 2013 in advance of India’s 2014 general election. The survey’s aim is to understand the ways in which the Indian voter’s attitudes may be changing and the ramifications for political preferences. Stay tuned for analysis of some of the data coming out of that survey.
